The main reason that Obama and McCain have done well is that they are polite. Gentlemen.

Bill and Hillary are more rough and tumble. Sort of Machiavellian. They are the types of politicians who will do or say anything to get into office. They don't quite fit this "polite" mould. American voters want a statesman, not a politician.
