Backbone

So many people play fast and furiously with the truth. They tell everyone what they want to hear and are afraid to tell the truth if it might upset someone. Politicians are especially prone to this trait.
-
For 15 years I was General Manager of a food company located in Europe. One of my colleagues was like that. He had a serious problem with alcohol and drugs, and telling the truth was largely irrelevant to him. He even joked about him not having any backbone.
-
Out walking in the Chihuahuan desert this morning with the dog I saw this backbone. And it made me think about my ex-colleague.
