Roy Bean

In researching the old Butterfield Stage I found that the small town of Mesilla, just outside of Las Cruces, New Mexico, was the largest settlement between San Antonio and San Diego in the late 1850's. And Roy Bean and his brother ran a saloon right on the main square.

So I ordered this book from Amazon. I guess it must be out of print.

This copy was originally in the Albuquerque Public Library. It was first published in 1943 when Charles Leland Sonnichsen was only 42 years old.

I see now why Sonnichsen is so famous. Not only is he a good researcher, he is an excellent writer. A real pleasure to read.
