Kokopelli
-
The humpbacked flute player Kokopelli is an American Indian fertility deity.
-
For years I’ve been interested in him. I’ve seen drawings of him on Indian rock art in the Southwest. And the last time I was in America the family took a nice little trip up to Old Mesilla and ate lunch. At one of the little touristy type
shops I bought some kitchen placemats depicting Kokopelli in Santa Fe colors.
-
I went to a fairly big arts and crafts fair in Germany today. There were probably 100 booths where artists were selling various arts and crafts. One caught my eye.
-
This young German guy is a metal worker. And he specializes in making depictions of Kokopelli in rusty steel.

He went to America in 1993. In New Mexico he learned about Kokopelli, and since then he has sort of become a German specialist in this native God.
