Happy Birthday Sir Isaac Newton
Sir Isaac Newton was born on this date in 1643. He was an English physicist, mathematician, astronomer, natural philosopher, and theologian. Many scholars consider him to be one of the most influential scientists in history.
Among many other things he built the first practical reflecting telescope. He also developed a theory of color based upon observing that a prism breaks down white light into the range of colors that make up the visible spectrum. He also studied the speed of sound and formulated an empirical law of cooling.
I owe him a debt of gratitude since I currently own two Newtonian reflecting telescopes. My favorite is the wonderful eight inch Dobsonian. Happy Birthday Sir Isaac!
