The number of intentional homicides registered during January in the city and the valle de Juarez reached 153 victims, indicating an average of 4 or 5 persons murdered each day.

The deaths in January 2009 include 7 police agents or other state or municipal officials. Only one female victim is included in this tally, her body having been found in a canal on January 3. She died from knife wounds, and she has still not been identified.
