The cartoon in yesterday’s funny papers says it all. People are incredibly rude and self centered nowadays. It manifests itself openly in movie theaters. Talking, laughing, even talking on their cell phones.
Its not just in America either. I’ve run into the same arrogant impoliteness in cinemas in Dublin, Ireland; London, England; and in The Netherlands. This “me above all else” philosophy really is a world wide phenomenon.
Anyway, if you’ve got a DVD hooked up to your wide plasma screen, high definition television, with a 5.1 Dolby wrap around sound it really is so much better to watch movies in your own home. And when you need to pee, or you are thirsty, or it just gets too exciting, all you need to do is press the pause button. And you don’t need to shut off your cell phone either.
Watching movies in a public environment really is just an anachronism. It is only within the last few years that this level of quality was available in home cinema systems at a cost that normal people can afford.
