Roman Era Sand Pit

A little less than 3 miles from my house in Holland (N 50.91714, E 5.96526) there is a large sand pit. It is kind of famous because the sand that comes out of it is so white.

I drove by there this morning on my way to a mineral show in Heerlen.

Around 2,000 years ago the Romans started taking this sand for use in making glass. And still today there is a large glass making plant 
nearby.
