The wildly popular American program where the government would give a $4,500 rebate to people who traded in old cars for new cars that got slightly better fuel economy was so popular that it used up its entire funding of $1 billion in about one week.
The program is such a horribly watered down compromise with the badly informed Republicans that you can get the government rebate when buying a new Ford F150 full sized pickup truck. The program needs to be fine tuned a little so that it encourages people to buy motor vehicles which truly fall into the category of vehicles which get good fuel economy.
Originally the program was intended to have a funding of $4 billion, but the political party of negativism (the Republicans) got this reduced to $1 billion. The Republicans are vehemently opposed to anything which helps the “common man” and they are passionately against anything which makes the Democrats look good.
The dishonestly of the ill-mannered right wing and the polarization of American politics continues to strengthen.
