El Paso Census

The latest numbers from the United States Census Bureau estimate that El Paso, Texas now has a population of 742,062. When the population of Juarez, Mexico is added in, the total for the Paso Del Norte metropolitan area becomes about 2.5 million people.

The percentage of the Hispanic population in El Paso continues to increase. The latest numbers indicate that El Paso is now 81.77% Hispanic. When other minority groups are taken into consideration as well, the percentage of Anglos in El Paso has now shrunk to between 15% and 18%.

It is good to speak both English and Spanish. If I am at the supermarket, in Wal-Mart, or at a swap meet and I want to initiate a conversation with someone, I always start out in Spanish.

The corruption in El Paso and the lack of respect for the idea of rule-of-law is not yet at the levels seen in Mexico, but as the culture becomes more Hispanic it continues to incorporate more of the elements of Mexican culture. The good and also unfortunately the negative parts.
