When my little black doggie and I went out on our walk in the desert yesterday evening we saw some interesting things.
-
First we saw this burial way out in the desert, off the road. Whoever made this cross didn't even have a nail or screw to connect the horizontal part of the cross to the vertical member, so rope or twine was used.
-
I rather doubt that at the time of the burial the cross was hammered into the ground clear up to where the horizontal section of the cross was at ground level. It seems more logical that this has been here for many years, and that the sand has gradually been moved by the wind to where the horizontal section of the cross in now almost buried.-

This location is generally along the section of desert where the route was that the people took back in the times of the covered wagons. Going west to find a new life and seek their fortune. It probably isn't older than 50 or 100 years, but it could be any time after the very late 1500's. The Spaniards began bringing in Christianity about that time. Certainly I would not think that the aboriginal peoples would have put a cross up to mark a grave site.

Afterwards was saw a nice little desert sunset rainbow.
