Fluorescent Rocks

This autunite (uranium ore) is not particularly beautiful, large, or special. Except for one thing - the mineral was originally named for Autun, France and that is where this stone came from.

The fluorapatite is from Pakistan and is a nice little crystal. It is pretty and fluoresces nicely. I bought it from my friend from Afghanistan.

I have a lot of fluorite. Even some that I have self collected in the Weardale area of the UK. What makes this rock special is where it is from, and also that there is a layer of calcite below the flourite that fluoresces nicely red.
